Tour Sunshine Mountain Lodge: Banff’s Only Ski-In/Ski-Out Hotel

Sunshine Mountain Lodge

After a full day exploring the three mountains of Banff Sunshine, you’ll want to slide straight into the nearest comfy bed to recover (perhaps with a detour at apres ski).

Banff National Park is overflowing with accommodations options, from hostels and budget hotels to the Castle in the Mountains. There is the perfect spot for everyone to rest up. However, there is only one ski-in/ski-out hotel in the entire park: Sunshine Mountain Lodge.

This boutique luxury property is the welcoming next-door neighbor of the Standish Lift and steps away from the gondola, which whisks all guests up from the parking lot at the lower base. It’s the only lodging at Banff Sunshine ski resort at an elevation of 7,200 feet.

“7,000 feet above ordinary in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, Banff, Canada”

Sunshine Mountain Lodge has 84 rooms, ranging from compact and cozy to spectacular suites for families and groups. Throughout the property, the décor is rustic mountain with a touch of luxury. The entry-level rooms are the Deluxe Balcony and Deluxe Waterfall rooms in the Main Lodge. (Pro tip: The Waterfall Rooms are the quietest.) There are eight Main Lodge Suites and each has its own floor plan. The new West Wing has Premiere and Loft Rooms.

West Wing Premiere Rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows with mountain views and offer ski-to-the-door access, but our pick is the West Wing Loft Rooms. Look no farther than the 27-foot tall wall of windows perfectly framing the Sunshine Village and you’ll be smitten by these spacious suites, too. There is a remote-controlled shutter if you choose to close off the stunning view of Lookout Mountain. Amenities like in-floor heating, natural gas fireplaces, and plush robes welcome and warm guests from the winter wonderland outside. The Loft Rooms sleep up to six adults comfortably. There is a king-sized bed in the upper loft with a private bath, and there is a queen-sized bed plus a queen Murphy bed on the main floor with a bathroom and jetted tub.

There is also a game room with pool table and arcade games to keep the thrill going in the evenings or a family room with wood-burning fireplace, TV, and board games. Each night guests have access to complimentary equipment lockers to store all ski and snowboard gear, which is not allowed in rooms.
